The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the complete 2015 measure performance rates in the Physician Compare database.

This service was mandated by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010 with the goals of:

  • Providing information to help consumers make informed decisions about their health care
  • Creating clear incentives for physicians to perform well

Over time, this public database has been enhanced and now provides useful information about individual and group health care providers who participate in Medicare.

What Information Is Included in the Physician Compare Database?

Physician Compare allows consumers to find physicians and other health care providers who offer Medicare services. Some of the basic available information on providers includes:

  • Names, addresses and phone numbers
  • Primary and secondary specialties
  • Group practice affiliation
  • Clinical training
  • Hospital affiliation
  • American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) Board Certification
  • Spoken languages

Physician Compare also contains 2015 performance rates for both groups and individual providers:

  • Individual performance scores. Providers are evaluated on 131 measures available for public reporting. Data is available for 180,723 individual clinicians.
  • Group performance scores. Group providers are evaluated on 112 group measures available for public reporting. Data is available for 2,371 groups.
  • Group patient experience. Included are performance rates based on 8 measures reported by groups that are available for public reporting. Data is available for 429 groups.

All data is available for downloads in a wide variety of formats including Microsoft Access, CSV and Excel.
