Scam Alert: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Warning

Watch out Texas physicians! A recent scam aims to con you out of your money.

The scam campaign offers to help doctors become credentialed with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) – for a fee. The scammers want $250 to perform a service that, on the BCBSTX side, is free. Using a credentialing organization, like 1st Assistant, to submit the application and perform the follow up will be an application fee but BCBS will NEVER charge providers to sign providers up on their network(s).

BCBSTX uses Aperture, an outside contractor, to manage credentialing. Any related correspondence will come directly from Aperture.

If you receive any correspondence demanding money in order to be credentialed with BCBSTX, do not proceed. This advice comes directly in an alert from BCBSTX as a warning not to fall for this scam. All new and currently contracted providers with BCBSTX receive credentialing correspondence from Aperture at no charge.
