Deadline Looming for Indiana Health Care Programs Location Linkages
Group providers for Indiana Medicaid have until January 1, 2018 to ensure that they are correctly linked to all service locations where they practice.
Starting January 1, those services billed for locations that are not linked to a provider’s enrollment record will be denied. Medicaid policy, according to the Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP), requires that providers be linked to the specific locations where they supply services for a group practice.
Additionally, providers who provide services will not be able to bill for services at a location to which they are not linked.
The bottom line: Group providers must ensure that the provider profile for each group location has accurate data on service providers linked with correct effective and end dates.
Prior IHCP Claims Systems Did Not Do Location-Specific Service Linkage Check
The processing rules for IHCP’s prior claims system IndianaAIM did not verify a specific service location linkage in order to pay claims. The old system checked that the rendering provider was linked to any service location.
However, under Indiana’s new information management system called CoreMMIS, claims billed by a provider not linked to the service location identified on the claim will be denied.
When this system was implemented, there were so many providers denied for this reason that IHCP temporarily allowed “post-and-pay” through December 31st. But claims without the proper provider service location linkage will be truly denied beginning January 1st.
Check that your payer enrollment information with IHCP is accurate and location -specific. You can visit ICP Banner Page BR201731 to confirm that your providers and service locations are correctly linked.
